Living Well Together
We have developed links with Amwell View School, Cooperscroft Care Home, Hertsmere Jewish Primary School, Queenswood, and Kiyunga Parents Primary School in Uganda.
Kiyunga Parents Primary School
Kiyunga Parents Primary School has been open for over 20 years now and was established by a group of parents, hence the name. Like us, it enjoys an Anglican foundation; however, the setting welcomes pupils from other Christian denominations, religions and worldviews. It is both a boarding and day school.
Dhabuliwo Abasa is a very passionate teacher at the school. He explained they have 7 classes from P1 to P7 and the children have to sit national exams called PLE. Miss Lina Barker helps maintain this link having visited Uganda and taught there, supporting colleagues to improve their practice, and keeps us updated.
Uganda Day
We celebrated our new connection with Uganda Day on Thursday 19 September 2020. Pupils dressed in the colours of the Ugandan flag (black, red and yellow). The event started with collective worship delivered by Save the Children, who described their ongoing projects in Uganda.
The charity also provided a workshop for Willow and Oak, exploring a day in the life of an Ugandan child. Borrowing some djembe drums, the children appreciated African sounds before creating artwork and tasting Ugandan foods.
