As I briefly mentioned in Northaw Newsround just before half term, today is International Mother Language Day, when the United Nations promotes linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. Each year, I would like to use it as a moment to celebrate the languages heard and spoken by pupils at home and school. Teachers have been leading discussions in their classes and providing opportunities to use common words and phrases in languages encountered by the children.
