School Opening Hours
The Department for Education recently published a minimum expectation on length of the school week.
By September 2023 at the latest, all state-funded, mainstream schools will be expected to provide a compulsory school week of at least 32.5 hours. The 32.5 hour minimum expectation includes the time in each day from the official start of the school day (i.e. morning registration) to the official end to the compulsory school day (i.e. official home time). The 32.5 hour minimum includes breaks and lunch times as well as teaching time and any extra-curricular activities that all pupils are expected to attend. It does not include optional before or after school provision.
We aim to meet this expectation by slightly adjusting our opening and closing times from September 2022. Gates will continue to open at 8.35am; however, it will be expected that every child has passed through by 8.45am, the new official start of the school day, when the gates will be closed. Children who arrive after 8.45am will have to enter via the main entrance and be marked as late; parents or carers must also complete a confidential late-book entry before leaving. The new official end to the compulsory school day will be 3.15pm for early years foundation stage and key stage 1, and 3.20pm for key stage 2.
